Michael Artrip

Certified Rolfer

Rolfing is a type of hands-on therapy that frees the challenges connective tissue can present in the body.  Connective tissue, also called fascia, exists throughout the body and can create bands or adhesions resulting from overuse or injury that cause discomfort. People interested in Rolfing are usually people who seek alignment, better function, ease of motion, and relief from pain or injury.  Sometimes structure is the cause of discomfort, like scoliosis.  What we do when the structure is the challenge is support your body in all possible areas to decrease the impact (or pain) in the structure.  In many cases, regardless of the cause, Michael has been able to decrease pain and, in some cases, eliminate it altogether.

Michael moved to Chicago in 2016, where he began his professional dance career. He is also a fitness instructor at Studio Lagree Chicago, where he has been teaching since 2018. Michael first found Rolfing® Structural Integration (SI) in 2017 by pure luck, but got off the table of his first session feeling like he had brand new hips. Michael attributes both his resolved pains and improved bodily function to the work he has received through Rolfing SI, and is excited to share this experience with others as a Certified Rolfer™.

During his training at the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute® in Boulder, CO, Michael was also drawn to the psychobiological effects of Rolfing: how the body's structure and a person's psychological state are reflections of each other, and how working with both in mind can help create a stronger mind/body balance and connection, improving how we see and interact with ourselves and the world around us.
